While Birmingham-born actress Helen George competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, finishing in sixth place, many fans will know her from her iconic role in the popular BBC period drama, Call the Midwife. Now, she reveals she would like to try her luck on The Traitors after being a fan of the celebrity version.

While the rumour mill works overtime trying to figure out who will be replacing former presenters Tess Daly, 56, and Claudia Winkleman, 53, as Strictly presenters, Helen, 41, has firmly shot down the idea of taking over.

When asked if she could ever be a TV presenter, Helen said: “No, I’m an actor!”, before she revealed her guesses on who might be stepping in.

“Rylan would be good, and Holly Willoughby is in the mix. Exciting times. Change is good”, Helen said.

Helen has played Trixie Franklin for 14 years in Call the Midwife, which started in 2012 and follows a group of midwives working in East End London during the late 1950s and 1960s.

While Helen has firmly denied ever stepping foot into presenting, she hasn’t ruled out taking part in The Traitors, which is currently on its fourth season and has a growing audience.

Helen said that while she has only watched ‘a little bit’ of the current season, she ‘loved’ the celebrity version, which featured the likes of Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Celia Imrie.

The Strictly star said: “I loved Celebrity Traitors! Celia was brilliant. Who in this country wouldn’t want to be on The Traitors? Full stop.” Following her stint on Strictly, Helen met Jack Ashton on the set of Call The Midwife. The two actors fell in love while filming the 2016 Christmas Special in South Africa and welcomed their first child, Wren, in 2017, and their youngest, Lark, was born in 2021.

However, Helen and Jack's romance came to an unexpected end after seven years together. Helen shared with The Mirror : "Some months ago, we separated. Our two beautiful girls remain the focus and I respectfully ask for privacy for this next chapter."

Helen found love again when she confirmed her relationship with Dan Innes at the start of 2025. Like Helen, Dan is also a divorced dad to two children, and Helen told The Mail's You magazine in December: “It's a very happy relationship. It's lovely to be with someone outside the industry.”

This year, Helen has decided not to set any New Year's resolutions and has opted for a chilled start to the year before she steps foot back onto the theatre stage.

She said: “It’s only week three, don’t really make them [resolutions], I don’t want to let myself down.” “I’m having a little break after a busy Christmas, then I start High Society at the Barbican in the spring." Helen added: It’s nice to balance TV, film, and theatre. I feel very lucky.”
