Adam Peaty’s estranged brother James has seemingly sent a pointed message to his sibling amid the ongoing family fallout surrounding the Olympic swimmer’s wedding.
The gold medallist, 31, married Holly Ramsay, 25, at Bath Abbey on Saturday, but the celebration was overshadowed by reports that most of Adam’s family were excluded from the guest list.
In the hours after the ceremony, James shared — then quickly deleted — a post that many have interpreted as a hint at how he was feeling about being frozen out of his brother’s wedding.
James uploaded an old photograph of himself standing alongside their mother, Caroline Peaty, outside Bath Abbey. The image is believed to have been taken on a previous occasion.
The mother and son were dressed smartly in the snap. James paired the photo with a remix of Speak Softly, Love, from The Godfather, which is a famous gangster flick about a mafia family who end up brutally killing outsiders to protect their own flesh and blood.
The song James posted plays throughout the Godfather trilogy, and towards the end especially features in moments where Kay Adams is becoming increasingly shut out of Michael Corleone’s world.
The Instagram Story remained live for just 15 minutes before being removed. Shortly afterwards, James’ Instagram account was completely wiped. All the images he had previously posted were deleted.
Around 200 guests attended Adam and Holly’s wedding, but reports suggest that his mum and brother were barred from the ceremony, and Adam’s father, Mark Peaty was only invited under controversial conditions.
According to an insider source, Mark was told he could attend the ceremony but would have to sit at the back of the church “behind the plus-ones”.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Frankly, it’s disgusting that it went ahead without Adam reaching out to his mum and dad beforehand.”
They added: “For him to turn around and tell [his sister] Beth that his dad could come and sit at the back of the church is awful. Mark was told he could sit behind plus-ones — who Adam has probably never even seen or spoken to.”
Adam’s sister Beth was the only member of his family who attended the ceremony in the end, as one of Holly’s bridesmaids. The rest of the Peaty family reportedly stayed at home in Uttoxeter, around 150 miles away.
Caroline had previously threatened to attend the wedding even though she was not invited, saying: “I will be there, and I will watch from the street.” However, she later decided against it, explaining it “would be too sad” and she didn’t want to “spoil his big day”.
The Peaty family rift reportedly began when Caroline was excluded from Holly’s lavish hen do, and left at home to watch Adam’s five-year-old son George instead.
Matters only escalated when James was arrested over allegations that he sent Adam threatening messages during his stag do in Budapest. He was later released on conditional bail.
Despite being involved in a huge family feud, Adam appeared blissfully happy as he exited Bath Abbey hand-in-hand with his beaming bride, with her parents Gordon and Tana Ramsay following closely behind.
