Wolves star Joao Gomes continues to be mentioned as a potential transfer target for Manchester United

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their hopes of still having a chance of signing Wolves star Joao Gomes. United have been linked with a move for the Brazilian ever since last summer, but the club opted not to bring a new midfielder to Old Trafford ahead of the current campaign.
Midfield has been an area of the squad that United have been heavily linked with strengthening for several months, and the rumours have continued into the January transfer window.
Gomes’ future at Wolves has been the subject of speculation for some time, but now there is more than just United in the running for his signature.
Serie A giants Napoli have been linked with a move for Gomes in recent days, and now there has been a fresh update on the midfielder’s future.

As a result, this would hand a boost to United, provided the Reds still have an interest in signing the former Flamengo star.
The report also claims that United’s former head coach, Ruben Amorim, specifically requested that United explore a move for Gomes. However, it remains to be seen if the Old Trafford hierarchy will do so now that Amorim has been replaced by interim head coach Michael Carrick.
Wolves reportedly value Gomes at around £43million (€50million), but it’s still unclear if that is a price that United would be willing to meet before the transfer window closes. Another boost has arrived in the form of Wolves preferring to sell to a Premier League team because of the finances involved.
United have been heavily linked with signing a new midfielder for some time, with a host of potential candidates mentioned as possible signings.
Carlos Baleba of Brighton, Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace have all been mentioned as potential targets for United in the past, so it remains to be seen where Gomes stands in the club’s thinking before the upcoming deadline.
