Sefton Labour leader Ian Maher secured the council chamber’s top job in 2015 after Peter Dowd stepped down to become an MP for Bootle. Councillor for the Netherton and Orrell ward since 1996, Ian Maher sits on the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership Board and the Local Government Association General Assembly.
