Now part of Sefton Maghull lies on the Leeds-Liverpool canal south of Ormskirk. Inventor Frank Hornby, the brains behind much-loved toys Meccano and Dinky, was its most famous resident. The Blue Plaque on his former home The Hollies was the first outside London. He is buried in St Andrew’s churchyard along with his wife and daughter. Ashworth high security psychiatric hospital is based in Maghull.
