Jannik Vestergaard has made a speedy recovery from his ankle injury and will be available for Saturday’s M69 Derby.

Vestergaard twisted his ankle during Leicester City's FA Cup win at Cheltenham, leading to immediate swelling.

But an assessment showed no damage and the Dane has been able to train this week. He will push Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli for a starting spot at the CBS Arena.

Boubakary Soumare could also play for the first time since the end of November, the Frenchman available to take on Coventry after a month-and-a-half out with a knee problem.

With no fresh problems either, it means City have their shortest list of injury absences for some time, with just Victor Kristiansen (knee), Harry Souttar (Achilles) and Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) out.

Harry Winks is also unlikely to be called up to the squad, with the midfielder set for an exit this January.

Discussing Vestergaard at his press conference on Thursday, Marti Cifuentes said: “He just rolled his ankle in an unlucky situation. But he’s good, he’s been training with the team. He’s ready for Saturday.

“There’s nothing else, so it’s good news. Bouba has been training with the group, doing well, recovering from his injury so he will be available as well.

“In terms of injuries, we have Victor, Soutts, and Aaron and all of them are on the way. For all of them, it’s going to be weeks until they are back.”

Abdul Fatawu, who was left out of the squad at Cheltenham in order to be rested, is expected to return this weekend too.

He saw red on City’s last trip to Coventry two seasons ago, when the Sky Blues won 3-1.
