A 57-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a van crashed into a child.

Leicestershire Police said it received a report of a collision involving a van and a child at 5.37pm on Wednesday, January 14.

The crash happened at the junction of Burnmoor Street and Walnut Street, in Leicester city centre.

Officers said the child was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police confirmed the child had not sustained injuries thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 57-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving in connection with the police investigation.

However, he was released a short time later and officers said no further action will be taken.
