Hull KR head coach Willie Peters believes Oliver Gildart’s best may still be to come after the star centre committed his future to the club by agreeing a new two-year deal.

The extension will keep Gildart at Sewell Group Craven Park until the end of the 2028 Super League season.

Gildart, 29, joined the Robins ahead of the 2024 season following a stint in the NRL. He has since featured 32 times for Hull KR, scoring 13 tries to date and made his comeback from a long-term injury to feature in last year’s Grand Final win over former club Wigan Warriors.

“I’m really happy. I’ve really enjoyed living here the last couple of years. The rugby side - I couldn’t ask for any better last year,” Gildart said.

“I think it’s special. As I’ve gotten a little older, I didn’t think I’d ever get to play with Budgie [Joe Burgess] again. Coming to Hull KR has reignited the spark, and we’ve created memories for life with this group. I’m over the moon to extend, and I’m looking forward to the next few years.”

Gildart provided an assist for wing partner Burgess during last year’s 24-6 Old Trafford triumph, completing a historic treble for the East Hull side alongside the Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield.

“I think Gilly has been really strong for us the last two seasons,” head coach Peters said.

“He’s had unfortunate long-term injuries in both seasons, but we know what Gilly is capable of.

“He showed what he is capable of in the Grand Final. Gilly’s form was outstanding before he got injured last year.

“I saw a change of mindset in him last year to go after training, which transferred into some strong performances in his game. He really bought into what we’re about at Hull KR.

“Providing Gilly stays mentally zoned in, I believe his best years are still ahead of him.”
