Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is keen to join Hull City on loan for the rest of the Championship season, according to head coach Sergej Jakirovic.

The 22-year-old could seal his short-term move to the MKM Stadium early next week, and it's hoped he will be at Deepdale to meet his new teammates on Tuesday night when the Tigers take on promotion rivals Preston North End, though he's not expected to play a part.

As first reported by Hull Live, Collyer's move to the MKM Stadium has been slowed down because of the managerial change at Old Trafford this week, which has seen Michael Carrick replace Ruben Amorim until the end of the season, but it's hoped it can be wrapped up in the next few days.

City's need to get the United youngster in the squad is paramount, with their injury crisis causing Jakirovic undue stress and worry ahead of Saturday's trip to Southampton.

Jakirovic expects to be unable to call upon as many as 11 first-team players, including midfielders Darko Gyabi, John Lundstram and Matt Crooks, while Ryan Giles, Joe Gelhardt and Mo Belloumi remain sidelined through injury, and Semi Ajayi is preparing for the third and fourth-place play-off at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

"We must wait for Man United for sure, but Toby wants to come," the Croatian told Hull Live. "This is good. It's always good when players want to come.

"We've spoken twice with Toby, and everything's good from us and from our side. It's good for Toby's side; now it's Man United's decision. Saturday, no, but maybe Preston if he will come, of course."

No decision has yet been made regarding ex-United defender Brandon Williams. It had been expected that he would move on in the window to free up space in City's squad, while giving him a chance to play regular football.

Jakirovic says no conversations have yet been had with Williams on the road back to fitness after suffering from a calf injury, which has kept him sidelined in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old is back on the grass and making progress, and could boost City's numbers at a time when they are really struggling all over the park.
