Devotees of the cherished BBC period drama Father Brown were delighted last week when the daytime detective series made its return to television.

Alongside the return of Mark Williams, Claudie Blakley, Ruby-May Martinwood, and Tom Chambers to their respective roles, another recognisable face appeared in the opening episode.

Actress Sorcha Cusack made her comeback to portray Mrs. McCarthy, a part she had played for numerous years, from the first series right through until her departure prior to the tenth series beginning.

Throughout this series, however, audiences will witness an array of guest appearances across the 10 episodes, featuring Coronation Street's Maureen Lipman, Julia Sawalha, Phil Daniels, and George Rainsford.

Another performer appearing in Father Brown this year is actress Daisy Beaumont, who takes on the role of Frances Dewfield in the seventh episode, reports the Express.

While it seems her character suffers a fatal fate, actor Mark Williams revealed that shooting her death scene proved to be quite entertaining.

When questioned about any humorous incidents that occurred during this series, the actor admitted that the cast dissolved into fits of laughter during one specific scene.

He responded: "Yes, there were. We sometimes have trouble with the death scenes, because, as you can imagine, it's hard sometimes to take it quite as seriously as we should.

"Daisy Beaumont and Nancy Carroll were intimately involved in Daisy's character's death this series, and that reduced us all to absolute giggles. You'll see what I mean when you see the episode!"

A summary of the forthcoming series states: "Following the jubilant wedding celebrations at the end of series 12, the new Mr and Mrs Sullivan settle into married life and a new home, with Isabel thrilled to be welcomed into the Policeman's Wives Society.

"Meanwhile, Brenda goes on a journey of self-empowerment as she covers the role of Parish Secretary and learns to drive with the help of Sergeant Goodfellow.

"Father Brown is tasked by Flambeau to visit Father Lazarus in prison, resulting in a deadly game of cat and mouse, which ruffles the feathers of Canon Fox.

"With his consecration now looming, Bishop-Elect Fox plans to enact his revenge upon Father Brown, leaving Kembleford changed forever. And in a Father Brown first - the group takes a trip to the seaside!"

Father Brown is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
