An assault victim whose eye socket, jaw and cheekbone were shattered is to get £750 compensation. Craig MacNab claimed he lashed out because the victim had "behaved inappropriately" during a party.
MacNab, 54, of Hamilton, admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury. Hamilton Sheriff Court heard it happened at MacNab's home on July 5 last year.
People had been drinking and an argument broke out around midnight. MacNab challenged the victim about his behaviour and punched him, knocking him to the floor.
Then he escorted the victim out of the front door and floored him again in the driveway with another punch. The victim went to hospital where he was treated for three facial fractures, reports LanarkshireLive.
He required surgery and a metal plate was inserted. He suffered nerve damage and lost a tooth.
Sheriff Kevin McCallum ordered MacNab to pay the victim compensation and carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work. He will be under supervision for a year.
MacNab has previous convictions but only for minor road traffic offences.
The sheriff told him: "This was an isolated incident that occurred against a particularly unfortunate background. But whatever the background, this man's injuries were significant and required surgical intervention.
"It's accepted on your behalf that this could attract a period of imprisonment, but I take account of your age, lack of previous offending and the whole background.
"You have expressed remorse and insight, and I'm satisfied that I can make you subject to a community payback order as an alternative to custody."
