Primark shoppers could soon find that their local store is affected by nationwide closures. The retailer is known for its bargain clothing, footwear and accessories, with around 190 stores all across the UK and more around the world.

However, some of the in-store cafes found in Primark branches will soon be pulling down their shutters for good. Four locations are confirmed to be closing, with decisions being informed by the size and location of each store. It comes after a video was posted on social media of Primark cafe employees allegedly being "made redundant".

The clip shows three employees cleaning tables and working behind the counter in a Primark cafe, captioned with: "Us because we are getting made redundant and will never see each other again. RIP Primark cafe."

However, Primark has assured that no staff members are currently being affected by the closures. In a statement, a spokesperson said: "We know how important our stores are to our customers and we’re constantly reviewing them to ensure we provide the best shopping experience.

"As we’ve expanded our own product offering, we are adapting our spaces so that each store is best set up to cater to local customer preferences."

It continued: "As part of this, we have been reviewing our in-store concessions and considering how we maximise and best use the space we have in our stores.

“Over the next 12 months customers will start to see the closure of some concessions. These decisions are being informed by the size and location of each store.”

Which stores are affected?

The retailer has confirmed that the Primark cafes in Glasgow Braehead shopping centre, Edinburgh Princes Street, Birmingham High Street and Belfast Royal Avenue are included in the closures.

The Primark pop-up cafes take on plenty of different fun themes, from Lilo and Stitch and Hello Kitty to The Simpsons and Stranger Things, serving food and drinks based on the current concept.

The spokesperson continued: "As this will be managed over the next 12 months and beyond, no Primark colleagues are currently impacted.

"However, we appreciate it may impact some of our partners and we’re committed to managing this process with care and transparency, supporting them throughout."
