Cheese is one of the most versatile foods out there, as perfect in a sandwich or melted on toast as it is grated on top of a jacket potato, on crackers, or just by itself as a little snack. And surely the king of cheeses is Cheddar. Originating in Somerset, the popular variety accounts for more than 50 per cent of all cheese sold in the UK, and comes in a range of strengths, perfect for any taste.

But, with so many types of Cheddar on the market, which are the best? That's what one UK foodie set out to discover.

Becca Stock, from Gloucester, has 567,000 followers on TikTok, where she is better known as beccaeatseverything and regularly posts content ranking and rating food available in shops, restaurants, fast food chains, and takeaways. She recently ranked 30 different types of Cheddar cheese available from all the major supermarkets in the UK.

Opening the video, she said: "I want to find out who makes the best Cheddar cheese, so I've bought 30 different types from every supermarket. Let's rate them from worst to best."

Coming right at the bottom of the rankings is Violife Supreme Cheddarton, a plant-based cheese alternative. Although she explained later in the video she ranks each cheese on its own merits rather than in comparison to others, that didn't help this product. As soon as she put it in her mouth she grimaced and said: "Urgh, vile."

"It tastes like sweet plasticine," she said. "Zero out of 10."

She progressed through the rankings, with products from major chains including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer, Iceland, Aldi, Asda, and Lidl, among others, all making an appearance. She said: "This is the dream, isn't it? Just standing in your kitchen, eating Cheddar for a living."

Coming in at number five in the rankings is Aldi's Spicy Cheddar with Chilli. "Love, love, love this," said Becca. "I like it when I get spice, but I can also taste the flavour of the chilli pepper.

"It's really intense, from the moment you put it in your mouth it really hits you, and then it's just building and building and building. I can feel the flame at the back of my throat.

"The cheese is nice, it's smooth and it's creamy. That's a 9.5 out of 10."

At number four is Aldi's Specially Selected Extra Mature Cheddar. "If you like a really strong mature Cheddar, that is amazing," said Becca. "That for me is a 10 out of 10."

Third is Lidl's Deluxe Somerset Crunchy Extra Mature Cheddar, which got an immediate reaction from Becca. "I've just levelled up to cheese heaven," she said. "It's delicious.

"If you want an extra mature cheddar that packs punch, this is it. It's creamy, it's crumbly. That is a 10 out of 10."

Just beaten to the top spot is Ivy's Reserve Vintage Somerset Cheddar, which is available in a number of supermarket chains, and claims to be the world's first carbon-neutral variety. Putting a piece in her mouth, Becca exclaimed: "Holy moly. It's sweet, it's nutty, it's like, slightly almost caramelised.

"I love the texture of it, like it is creamy, but it's slightly crumbly. Cheese on toast would be taken to the next level with this. That, firmly in my mind, no doubt, is a 10 out of 10."

And number one is a flavoured cheese from a British institution: Marks and Spencer. Naming the chain's Barber's Farmouse Truffle Cheddar as her number one, Becca said: "The truffle flavour hits you straight away.

"Then there's this sweetness, smokiness, nuttiness. That's the best truffle cheese I've ever had. That's a 10 out of 10."
