As the nights get darker, the days get colder and summer feels like a distant memory, it's more important than ever to treat yourself every now and then. With the hectic weather, we thought we'd need something big to deliver the pick me up needed.

So what better way to do that than find the biggest nachos in Edinburgh and give it a good go. Armed with nothing but an empty stomach and two willing friends, I headed along to Indigo Yard in the West End to try their Nacho Munro - a mountain of tortilla chips, cheddar cheese, mozzarella, chilli, sour cream, guacamole and jalapenos weighing in at a mighty 3kg. And that's not to mention the cups of hot nacho cheese sauce on the side.

Granted, it's recommended this absolute beast of a meal is shared between groups of four to six people, but what's dinner without a little challenge.

Heading into the restaurant, I was confident. Who doesn't love nachos, I was starving and at this point I fully believed I could have tackled the full 3kg all by myself. Safe to say, I was quickly humbled.

I'd asked for the sour cream to come separate, because it's not my favourite and I didn't want to deprive my friends of the full experience, and the Indigo Yard staff were really accommodating. There was a little bit of a wait while the kitchen got it all ready, but I thought that was really understandable, considering just how big a platter they were serving up for us.

Once it was set down in front of us, all my confidence went out of the window. Massive is an understatement and we were actually struggling to talk to each other with the wall of food in between us. Tables around us were laughing, looking, pointing us out to their friends. I knew then we were in trouble, and we needed to do the best we could or we'd show just how naive we'd been to think we could do this.

Dramatic, yes, but TikTok had been showing me competitive food eaters taking on challenges up and down the country and I was inspired. Although, it's important to say, the Nacho Munro isn't designed to be a food challenge, it's just the biggest dish I could find in the city!

And so, after a quick table pep talk, we attempted to bag our first munro.

I have to say, while I expected everything to be edible, I was slightly worried it would be slightly grim and gimmicky. I'm pleased to say, I was wrong. It was actually really nice, the guacamole was nice and fresh, the jalapenos added a nice kick and the cheese was layered throughout.

The real star of the show was the chilli though. I'm no culinary expert, but it definitely seemed like it had been cooked low and slow. It wasn't too spicy either.

Spurred on with how much we were enjoying everything, I started to think we actually had a chance. Twenty minutes later, the first member of the group tapped out. One friend down, I tried to carry on with my last teammate, but it wasn't looking good.

Just forty minutes later, we were all defeated. As hard as we tried, we weren't able to get through everything. That's not to say we didn't do well, in fact, I'm proud of what we managed to get through. I'd say we managed to eat over two thirds of our munro, we just didn't make it to the peak.

Had we one extra person, we'd have smashed it out no problem. So, take this as a delicious warning, don't bite off more than you can chew. Grab a few friends, three to five preferably, and give it a go.
