Exeter's food scene has seen a fair share of highs and lows over the years. This collection of archival photos highlights 24 restaurants, cafes, and eateries that have since shut their doors and cleared their tables.
While some were cherished establishments, others were poorly planned ventures, and a handful simply left a bitter taste. Despite dining out being a favourite pastime, the number of closures in Exeter emphasises the difficulty of making a lasting impression on the culinary landscape.
Many of the restaurants featured in this compilation have been knocked down and replaced with residential properties, while others had fleeting existences and left little imprint on our collective memory. In many cases, the original building still stands, but the business name has changed.
Here at DevonLive, we honour the restaurants we patronised between 2000 and 2010.
