A man who appeared to be asleep in the street later died in hospital, an inquest heard.
During the short public hearing, which took place at the Exeter County Hall on January 13, senior coroner Philip Spinney opened the inquest into the passing of 50-year-old Justin Jarrett.
Mr Spinney noted how Mr Jarrett, who was born in Exeter, resided at a property in Sunnymead, Pinhoe, was single and a carpenter by occupation.
Explaining the circumstances of Justin's death, he said that concerns were raised by members of the public after they found a man on December 3 last year who appeared to be asleep on the street. However, upon closer inspection they found blood coming from his head.
The emergency services were called and Justin was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he sadly died the following day.
Mr Spinney said the medical cause of death was not yet known. He adjourned the hearing and a full inquest will take place at a later date.
