Derby's newest McDonald's restaurant has opened its doors today (December 10) opposite Royal Derby Hospital.

Following a "significant" investment from franchisee Elizabeth Isherwood, the fast-food branch has opened in Southmead Way at a building formerly occupied by Beefeater, next to the Premier Inn.

The restaurant is open for dine-in, take-away, and delivery between 6.30am and 10.30pm, seven days a week.

The new 116-seater restaurant will create around 80 new full and part-time jobs for the local community, and has been developed in close collaboration with local businesses.

Ms Isherwood, who now owns and operates three McDonald’s restaurants in Derbyshire, said: "We are delighted to be opening a brand-new McDonald’s restaurant in Derbyshire and we look forward to seeing local customers, both new and old, enjoy our services on offer.

"People are at the heart of our business, and we can’t wait to welcome new employees with the jobs our restaurant will create.

"We’re committed to investing in opportunities for a mix of all ages, life stages and backgrounds, promoting flexibility and equality."

The restaurant has been built in line with McDonald’s "Convenience of the Future" programme, which combines a new layout with the latest technology to create a better experience for customers.

The restaurant's kitchen design features a dedicated courier area, enabling deliveries to be processed more quickly.

The branch also has a play area for children.
