Derby County 1-3 Leeds United highlights as Rams FA Cup hopes end in third round

Derby County are OUT of the FA Cup for another year after falling to a 3-1 defeat against Premier League Leeds United.

The two sides renewed a fierce rivalry that began in the 1960s and 70s when Don Revie and Brian Clough were respective managers and that was stoked by the infamous Spygate affair in 2019 when former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa sent scouts to spy on a Derby training camp before a Championship game.

Ben Brereton Diaz had the Rams in front at the break, planting a low finish into the bottom corner just two minutes after Joel Piroe had seen his penalty saved by Derby goalkeeper Jacob Zetterstrom.

But Leeds were too strong after the break, with Willy Gnonto and Ao Tanaka scoring within three minutes of one another to put Daniel Farke's men in front. James Justin added Leeds’ third in added time.

And Leeds are head. Piroe's shot towards the far corer is clawed away by Zetterstrom but there is Tanaka to gleefully tap in the rebound.

Quality goal to be fair.

Gruev's pass is dummied by Piroe and there is Gnonto to hammer past Zetterstrom. Was an absolute bullet.

12:47 - Half-time

By Leigh Curtis

Derby lead 1-0 courtesy of Ben Brereton Diaz's tidy opener.

12:46 - SAVE AGAIN

By Leigh Curtis

Great stuff from Zetterstrom as he saves superbly from Piroe. There's a shot on the follow-up that he also keeps out but wouldn't have counted because of an offside flag.

The Sweden international is having a great game.

12:39 - GOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL

Corey Blackett-Taylor stays onside as his pace takes him into the area. He cuts inside on to his right foot, but stumbles in the box. There are cries of penalty, but Leeds pause as the ball breaks free and Brereton Diaz is alive and slides the ball past Darlow and into the far corner.

Brereton Diaz gives the ball away, Leeds pounce and Piroe feeds a pass into Nmecha who is brought down by Zetterstrom.

12:33 - SAVE

Leeds play one pass inside and Tanaka has peeled off Salvesen and he slids a pass through to Nmecha, but Batth makes a superb tackle.

The ball comes to Piroe whose shot cannons off the near post.

12:25 - Save

By Leigh Curtis

A lovely pass from Brereton Diaz sets Clark racing into the inside left channel. He finds Blackett-Taylor on the overlap, but he never fully looks like he has the ball under control.

He cuts onto his right foot, but his shot is deflected into the arms of Darlow. That was a good chance.

12:22 - Free-kick

By Leigh Curtis

Lovely nick from Clark takes him away from his marker and he drives towards the area where he hauled to the ground. Anthony Taylor blows for a free-kick which Forsyth delivers into the area.

Batth meets it but he just glances his header wide of the post. The centre-back is frustrated he didn't make more of that,

12:18 - Chance

By Leigh Curtis

Fraulo dinks a lovely pass over for Brereton Diaz into the area, but he swipes his left foot at it and it's high and into the arms of Karl Darlow.

Derby more than holding their own. But neither goalkeeper has been tested yet.

12:16 - Derby respond

By Leigh Curtis

Derby sweep the ball from right to left which allows Corey Blackett-Taylor to run at the Leeds defence. He gets into the box, fires goalwards but it cannons off Bornauw's shins.

Disappointingly, Joe Ward's corner flies out for a goal kick. Can't afford to waste those set-pieces today as you may not get many of them.

12:13 - Corner

By Leigh Curtis

Mistake by Forsyth allows Nmecha to run goalwards but Batth recovers to send the ball out for a corner. Langas then gets first contact and hammers it clear.

Leeds just starting to hog possession, but their delivery into the final third has been poor so far.

12:10 - Over

By Leigh Curtis

A crossfield ball picks out Gnonto who has too much pace for Forsyth. The winger rolls a pass into the area which comes back to Noah Okafor who is leaning back and balloons his effort over the bar.

First real moment of danger for Leeds.

12:07 - Corner

By Leigh Curtis

Been a quiet opening so far but Blackett-Taylor has just burst into the area to win a corner.

That ramps up the noise from the South Stand as Joe Ward whips in a cross to the near post but it is cleared.

Some encouragment for Derby though.

12:00 - Here we go then....

By Leigh Curtis

The teams are out, and we are getting ready to go. Fabulous atmosphere building.

Interested to see how Oscar Fraulo gets on today and this will be some introduction for him.

Looks like Derby playing a back four.

11:04 - Changes for Derby

Six in total for the Rams. Forysth, Batth, Blackett-Taylor, Salvesen, Travis and Fraulo all start.

11:00 - Good afternoon

By Leigh Curtis

And welcome from Pride Park where Derby County are facing Leeds United this afternoon.

A lot of media interest in this game given the clubs' history, but it should be a cracking game.

Expect Leeds to make a few changes, and I suspect Derby's team will go as strong as they can. Oscar Fraulo could be involved today.

We will bring you the team news as soon as it lands.
