A Royal Mail worker was punched in the stomach in an alleged assault in the High Peak.

An investigation has been launched by police into the incident which is said to have happened at 11am on Wednesday, December 17, in Goyt View, Newtown. Officers said the alleged assault saw the Royal Mail worker, a woman in her 30s, approached by two people.

One of the two people punched her in the stomach before packages were stolen from the woman's red Royal Mail van.

Police said the two people were driving what was described as a white Ford Transit van and appeared to be highway maintenance workers.

One of them has been described as a white man of large build in his 30s or 40s with dark hair, and was wearing a green parker coat and a black woollen bobble hat.

The second person, whose gender is not known, has been described as white and in their 30s or early 40s, wearing a grey tracksuit, a yellow hi-viz vest and a dark coloured baseball cap.

In a statement, Derbyshire Police said: "Officers have been following a number of lines enquiry and are now asking for the public’s help to try and identify those involved.

"Of particular interest are anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage from the area at the time, as well as any drivers with dashcam footage."
