Celtic punters remain in a rage despite their taam’s win over Falkirk on Wednesday night

The wheels haven’t come off but Celtic fans remain insistent their squad needs major mechanical repairs.

Rangers supporters, meanwhile, reckon their boys in blue are motoring towards the title.

First up was John Bruce, who said: “The triple signing of Andreas Skov Olsen, Tochi Chokwuani and Tuur Rommens has given Rangers fans an insight in to the top quality that Danny Rohl requires at Ibrox. He has shown that winning titles is a priority for Rangers, rather than the pipe dream it was when he arrived only a few short months ago.”

Across the city of Glasgow and Hoops punters can’t emerge from their depression. Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “It was a huge win for the champions at a difficult place to go against a good Falkirk team who probably deserved a point. But it was not a good performance – once again highlighting the need for players. But I get the feeling this is going to be yet another disappointing transfer window and this squad is not good enough to win the league.”

Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, spared a thought for his team’s 73-year-old manager: “Poor Martin O’Neill, he looked shattered at Falkirk. That team needs five or six starters, before we play Hearts, never mind before the window closes. So tired, so jaded, so leggy. Three points on the board, but we’re running on fumes.”

John Forster, Sydney, emailed: “The green Honda nearly ran out of petrol at Falkirk. Calmac, McCowan and Hatate have no recovery pace. Players know when you get in front of they three, it’s a one horse race. Hearts can turn the screw. Just whisper it, but Rangers are right in the mix.”

Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, chimed in: “Celtic badly need recruits because the current squad is thin on replacements for the run in where tiredness, injuries and suspensions will play their parts in the tight run in. It is now up to the board to spare the blushes of O’Neill who is showing that he has the nerve for the fight but fresh blood is needed for the team to see the season out successfully. Failure to bring in stronger players will leave the fans rightly angry at the incompetence of the board. The Tynecastle fixture will tell us all we need to know about the board’s future and our title hopes.”

Jim McClean, Rothesay, moaned: “Another shambles of transfers during the window, especially Celtic with the money they have in the bank, all teams and I include my team Kilmarnock should not be allowed any more than two loan deals at the one time. It is spoiling the Scottish game by not allowing the young players to come through. Rangers have been the worst at it over the last few years.”

Regular Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, kept the theme going as he said: “Celtic definitely got away with one at Falkirk and but for the much criticised Kasper Smeichel’s wonder save we would have lost valuable points going into the powder keg fixture at Tynecastle. However watching Martin O’Neill comments after I was disappointed in not hearing he’s confident of a new forward spearheading the forward line in a match that for me decides the title.”
