Two lorries crashed at a busy junction in West Lothian.

Emergency services raced to the scene, with one man rushed to hospital. The surrounding roads were said to be at a standstill following the crash.

Pictures of the scene taken by another driver show an HGV and another lorry facing each other in the middle of the junction.

He told Edinburgh Live : β€œI’m not sure if the brakes failed or someone jumped the lights, but it happened right on the junction.

β€œAll the roads are backed up, and you can only get so far coming down through Longridge.”

A police car and an ambulance can also be seen in the pictures with their blue lights flashing. The nature of any injuries the man sustained are not known.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: β€œWe were called to a report of a crash involving an HGV and a lorry on the A706 near Longridge around 2.20pm on Thursday, 8 January, 2026.

β€œEmergency services attended and one man was taken to hospital for treatment.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: β€œWe received a call at 14.33 to attend a two-vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of the A706 and B7015.

β€œAn ambulance and a special operations response team (SORT) were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to the University Hospital Monklands.”
