A Livingston graduate has been fast-tracked to Assistant Land Buyer role by a top housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes West Scotland has announced the appointment of Ihsan Can after he completed the company’s graduate scheme 10 months ahead of schedule.

The 23-year-old from Livingston joined the five-star homebuilder in September 2024, beginning his career in Yorkshire as part of Persimmon’s two-year rotational graduate programme. During the scheme, Ihsan gained hands-on experience across Land and Planning, Technical, Commercial, Construction, Finance and Sales, developing a broad understanding of the housebuilding process.

In July 2025, Ihsan transferred to Persimmon Homes West Scotland’s Glasgow-based office to join the Land and Planning team, an area he had long aspired to work in.

Just five months later, his performance and commitment were recognised with a permanent appointment, allowing him to finish the graduate programme well ahead of schedule.

Ihsan studied Engineering at the University of York and undertook several internships and development programmes to deepen his understanding of the property sector, including a placement with the Inward Investment team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

In his new role, Ihsan will support the land team in sourcing and securing development opportunities, helping Persimmon Homes West Scotland deliver much-needed new homes and play its part in tackling Scotland’s housing emergency.

Ihsan Can, Assistant Land Buyer at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “The graduate scheme has given me a fantastic grounding in how the business operates, and the opportunity to work across different departments has been invaluable.

Moving into the land team in West Scotland was always my goal, so I’m incredibly proud to have secured a permanent role earlier than expected. I’m excited to be part of a team that’s helping bring forward new homes for communities across Scotland.”

Chris Logan, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, added: “Ihsan’s progress through the business has been outstanding and is a great example of the opportunities our graduate scheme provides.

He has shown real drive and commitment, and we’re delighted to welcome him into the land team as he begins the next stage of his career with Persimmon.”
