Plans have been submitted to turn a Coventry house into a children's home. An application filed this week could see a five bedroom home in Sandringham Close changed to accommodate up to four care for children aged seven and up.

If given the go ahead, the home would see two staff working long shift patterns including sleeping over - with the aim of attempting to create a family style environment.

The home will be registered with Ofsted "as a home for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) and/or learning difficulties".

The planning statement explains: "The application property is a detached five-bedroom dwelling situated in south-west Coventry. It is situated as part of a residential housing estate immediately to the south of Westwood Business Park. The University of Warwick campus is located a short distance to the south-east.

"The children’s home would provide accommodation for up to, but no more than, four children aged between 7 and 18.

"The children would be cared for by trained carers twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

"The children would be permanent residents of the care home with up to four carers working at the property during daytime hours and two staying overnight at the property.

"The carers would work on a regular shift pattern in order to provide continuity with the children and create a family environment. The children are expected to attend school during term-time and would otherwise largely be expected to have a social life similar to other children of a similar age."
