Tragedy unfolded on a stretch of the A3 this morning (Thursday) after three horses were hit and killed by vehicles in two separate incidents.
At around 1.40am today (Thursday, January 15), Surrey Police were called to reports of two horses on the A3 northbound that were initially "loose" in the road before being struck down by an LGV, reports Surrey Live.
Moments later, a second call was made regarding a crash between a car and a third horse as it travelled down the A3.
Tragically, all three of the animals were found deceased at the scene.
While officers are engaging with the drivers of both vehicles as part of ongoing enquiries, the road has been temporarily closed between the A247 (Burntcommon) and the B2039 (Ockham).
Diversions remain in place as Highways England look to carefully remove the deceased horses from the main road. Tailbacks of around an hour have built up.
