Boardmasters is here, and revellers old and new will be getting ready to party. Over five days, the festival (the fifth largest music festival in the UK) will take over the cliff at Watergate Bay near Newquay, with banging tunes and a great party atmosphere.

For many young people, attending Boardmasters is a rite of passage. For most, the five-day event passes without any incident, and everyone has a good time.

But as with everything, there are always a minority who may not know their limit or newbies who don't know the rules, especially when it comes to booze and drugs.

First off, remember that the laws of the land apply at Boardmasters so if you are under 18 you will not be served any cider or beer from any bar on site as it's illegal. All recreational drugs are also illegal. Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police will be patrolling the site along with the security team from Boardmasters.

While many returning attendees will be familiar with the routine and know what to pack and what to leave behind for this year's four-day spectacle, newcomers to festivals - particularly ones of this magnitude - may be unsure about what is permitted on site and what will be seized at the entrance.

There will be numerous bars scattered across the vast site, so anyone over the age of 18 will have the opportunity to purchase a beer, cider, or other festival favourites like rum or gin. However, there is no prohibition on bringing your own alcohol if you're looking to save money.

But if you haven't checked Boardmasters' official website, there are restrictions in place regarding what and how much you can load onto your festival trolley. The main rules concerning alcohol are that only full festival ticket holders (not day ticket holders) are allowed to bring in alcohol, and glass is prohibited on site for health and safety reasons.
