The legendary Bristol Rovers pub The Queen Vic has been sold, but the new owners want to keep the future of the pub a surprise.

The Gloucester Road venue has a special place in the hearts of The Gas' fans, and it was the scene of last season's promotion celebrations, which saw supporters carry Billionaire owner Wael al-Qadi on their shoulders.

It certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed amongst the diehards that the pub has closed, with fans having to go elsewhere for a pre-match pint before Darrell Clarke’s side beat Shrewsbury 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

In February, auctioneers Sidney Phillips marketed the pub at a guide price of £245,000 ahead of its sale.

Rumours had been circulating among Rovers fans that the pub had been purchased by the neighbouring Shell Petrol Station.

The Post approached the garage for comment and management denied they'd bought the pub.

A Sidney Phillips spokesperson said: “There was significant interest in the property from a number of parties. The Queen Vic has now sold at close to the guide price of £245,000.

“I can’t reveal who bought the Queen Vic but I know they have a scheme planned which they’re excited about.

“I’m sure they will reveal more when the time is right.”

Supporters will be hoping the Queen Vic will be open again soon and hosting another promotion party this May.
