Bristol City have wasted no time making their second addition of the January transfer window, with ex-Ipswich captain Sam Morsy joining the Robins

Sam Morsy has promised that he will "give everything" he has got as a Bristol City player, with the midfielder putting pen to paper on a contract at Ashton Gate until the end of the season to become the Robins' second signing of the January transfer window.
β
The Reds confirmed on Friday lunchtime that the 34-year-old would be joining Gerhard Struber's ranks in south Bristol for the second half of the Championship season, having departed Kuwait SC in September. The midfielder played just three times for the Middle East side, who he only joined last summer.
β
Over the course of his career, Morsy has gained plenty of experience throughout the EFL during spells with Port Vale, Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic, Barnsley, Middlesbrough, and, most famously, Ipswich Town.
β
The Egyptian international captained the Tractor Boys to back-to-back promotions to the Championship and Premier League under the management of Kieran McKenna and went on to make 33 appearances in the top flight before departing Portman Road at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Now, he's looking to continue his impressive career in England, with Sunday afternoon's clash with Preston North End his first chance to make an impact in red and white.
Speaking to City's media team, Morsy said: "I am delighted to be here. As soon as I heard of the interest, I could see it was a really good fit for me.
β
"Gerhard has an infectious personality and is a real winner and I know the style of football he wants to play. I am going to give everything I have got, and I am fully committed to the cause. I am joining an amazing football club and an amazing group."
Adding greater midfield depth was always likely to be on City's agenda during the January transfer window. For much of the campaign so far, the Reds have been forced to operate with Adam Randell and Jason Knight as their only available senior options, with injury restricting Joe Williamsβ and Max Bird's involvement.
β
Williams' last appearance, competitive or otherwise, in red and white came against Sheffield United in last season's play-off campaign, while Bird has managed to feature in just four league games this term, the last of which saw him used as a second-half substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in September.
Though there remains hope that both players will have a part to play between now and the end of the season, the signing of Morsy will provide Gerhard Struber with some much-needed cover as the Robins aim to secure their spot in the play-off places.
On the latest addition, technical director Brian Tinnion added: "We know what an experienced player Sam is and to have his quality on the pitch and his leadership in the dressing room is really exciting for us.
β
"We are so pleased to have him here until the end of the season."
Confirmation of Morsy's move to BS3 came less than an hour after City announced their first arrival of the winter. Former Liverpool prospect Ranel Young has joined the Robins on a deal until the summer of 2027, with an option of a further year, and will link up with Dennis Baraznowski's Under-21 side.
β
Although the Reds are not expected to spend masses of money over the remainder of the month, Struber has made no secret of his desire to add some further quality to his ranks, with a striker high on the City boss' agenda.
While he stopped short of naming the player, the Austrian did confirm ahead of the Robins' impressive New Year's Day win over Portsmouth that the club are "close" to securing the services of a new centre-forward.
