Bristol City have provided supporters with a November injury update as Gerhard Struber's side contend with several absentees

Bristol City have issued a new injury update, providing the latest on the fitness of Jason Knight, Cam Pring, Neto Borges, Mark Sykes, Harry Cornick, Josh Stokes, Max Bird, Joe Williams, Rob Atkinson, Luke McNally, and Ross McCrorie as the Robins enter the November international break.
Gerhard Struber has been operating with a severely reduced first-team squad in recent weeks due to several injury issues in the Reds’ camp. The absentee list was stretched to 10 senior players for the Reds’ clash with Watford at Vicarage Road last Friday, where City came from behind to draw 1-1 with the Hornets.
With no fixture to be played this weekend, as a result of the international break, the Robins are not in Championship action until Saturday, November 22, when they will welcome Swansea City to Ashton Gate. Defender Ross McCrorie is expected to be ready and available to feature against the Swans, despite withdrawing from international duty with Scotland this month.
Alongside the wing-back, Struber and his players will be boosted by the return of both Knight and Pring to first-team training in the lead-up to their next league game. Knight suffered a groin injury during the Reds’ draw with Preston North End in September, while Pring hasn’t made a competitive appearance since the second leg of last season’s play-off semi-final, having sustained an ankle injury in pre-season.
Borges, who missed the meeting with Watford last time out after being withdrawn early in City’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers, will join Knight and Pring in returning to training over the course of the international break. The Brazilian was afforded extra recovery time to ensure he was fully fit upon his return.
Sykes is likely to return to training over the course of the next couple of weeks following a minor procedure on the shin injury he sustained against Blackburn, whilst Cornick is progressing well after a knee injury and a hernia repair. In similarly positive news, Stokes is working on the pitch and will build his fitness over the course of the next month or so after he fractured his metatarsal against Fulham in the Carabao Cup.
In terms of the longer-term issues, Atkinson - as previously mentioned by Struber - is set to be sidelined until Christmas with a hamstring issue. Bird is expected to complete some pitch-based running this week, with a return to team training likely in December after he sustained a calf injury in September.
Williams, who Struber had already confirmed was unlikely to play again in 2025, has undergone surgery on a hamstring injury. The midfielder initially went under the knife in the summer, after picking up an ankle issue in the play-off campaign, but his new injury means that he is now ruled out until February 2026
Like the former Everton prospect, McNally is also expected to be sidelined for longer than expected. The Irish defender wasn’t expected to feature this calendar year after the decision was taken to leave him out of the Robins’ 25-man squad, following the ACL injury he sustained in February.
Since his initial operation, the ex-Burnley man has needed to go under the knife twice more, and while the ACL repair remains intact, surgery was needed to address post-operative complications. No timeframe has been put on McNally’s return, with a specialist review in early 2026 set to help map out the defender’s next steps.
In the statement shared to their website, the Robins said: ‘Bristol City would like to offer an update on the squad ahead of the international break.
'While it has been a difficult period with regards to injuries, we are confident we are getting closer to being in a strong position ahead of the Christmas period.’
