Bristol City have been linked with Middlesbrough's Delano Burgzorg as the Robins continue to search for a new striker this winter

Gerhard Struber has admitted that he doesn't "read so much from the media" whilst addressing links between Bristol City and Middlesbrough's Delano Burgzorg, with the Robins boss insisting the club are "in touch" with more strikers this January.

The Reds are reportedly interested in Boro forward Burgzorg this winter as they aim to bolster their striking options for the remainder of the season. Kim Hellberg's side aren't expected to stand in the 27-year-old's way, if they're able to secure a replacement.

Both leading into the January transfer window and in the opening days of the month, Struber has made no secret of his desire to add another centre-forward to his ranks. Such a player was high on City's agenda late in the summer, but no such deal was completed before the deadline.

Although Burgzorg's name has been the primary one linked with the Robins in recent days, he isn't the only player on Struber and his recruitment team's radar, with the Reds boss keen to find a player who fits both the system and the culture already in place at Ashton Gate.

"I don't read so much from the media," the head coach told Bristol Live when asked about the links with the Boro forward. "We speak at the moment with [and] we are in touch with more strikers at the moment.

"But this must be, in the end, a striker [who] is super convinced to be here, and he must be, in the end, a striker who can help the team techincal-tactical-wise, but also mental-wise.

"We are here in exchange with more strikers, and we will see which one decides to jump here and in which direction we decide to bring someone in."

So far this month, the Robins have moved quickly to add some much-needed strength in depth to their squad, particularly in central and attacking midfield.

While former Liverpool youngster Ranel Young was first through the door in BS3 and has linked up with the Under-21s, he has since been followed by Sam Morsy and George Earthy. The ex-Ipswich Town skipper and the West Ham loanee both featured as City booked their place in the FA Cup fourth round win over Watford on Saturday evening.

Such signings have meant that the Reds are well-stocked in almost every position, at the time of writing at least. However, behind Emil Riis and Sinclair Armstrong, there remains a lack of Championship-proven striking alternatives, particularly with Fally Mayulu currently sidelined by injury.

Naturally, therefore, changing that situation will be the primary focus for the remainder of January, but the Robins will do what they can to make sure they find the right player for the current situation.

"I would say this would be the next step, next to our strikers that we have here, when we would bring a little bit [of] a different face," Struber explained. "Maybe a bit of a different quality, that bring us in the end more unpredictable moments.

"In this way, we are searching and want to find someone who helps tactical and technical-wise the team," the head coach added. "But also - and especially, you could see today the character and the mentality from this group - so we need someone in who is also a really good character, someone who is with a good energy on the way, someone who is hungry and loves to play for Bristol City.

"I think this is something that we have to check."
