Bristol City will be hoping to build on last season's play-off finish in the new Championship campaign

Bristol City will kick off their 2025/26 Championship season, and the Gerhard Struber era, with an away game against Sheffield United on Saturday, August 9 before welcoming newly-promoted Charlton Athletic to Ashton Gate.
The opening day clash with the Blades, which is a repeat of last term's play-off semi-final, will kick off at the later time of 5:30pm while the first game of the campaign in BS3 against Nathan Jones' Addicks will be played a week later at a more traditional time of 3:00pm. City will then round off their first block of fixtures before the September international break with a trip to Pride Park to face Derby County and a home clash with Hull City.
The Tigers dodged the drop into League One on the final day of last season, with a draw against Portsmouth enough to finish above Luton Town on goal difference, but not enough for Ruben Selles, who is now Sheffield United boss, to keep his job at the MKM Stadium.
Struber's Robins will play all three teams relegated from the Premier League at home first, with the visits of Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City scheduled for September 30, October 21 and December 10 respectively. League One champions Birmingham City will make the trip to Ashton Gate on October 25 while the Reds will travel to Hollywood-backed Wrexham on November 26 for a midweek clash under the lights.
City's first reunion with former boss Liam Manning is scheduled for October 18 when they travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich City. The 39-year-old won't return to BS3 until the return fixture currently scheduled for April next year.
Although the Reds are away on Boxing Day, the fixture gods have been kind to supporters, with Struber set to take his team up the M5 to face West Brom at The Hawthorns. City will then close out 2025 away to Millwall on December 29 before kicking off 2026 with a home game against Portsmouth, which will be welcome news for those hoping to remain local for their New Year's Eve celebrations.
In truth, it is hard to measure just how difficult Struber's side's end to the campaign will be, particularly with the transfer window in its infancy, but on paper, there are a few tricky tests. The Robins' final 10 matches will see them host West Brom, Sheffield United, Norwich and Stoke City alongside away trips to Leicester City, Middlesbrough, Charlton, QPR, Southampton and Birmingham City.
In addition to their league fixtures, the Robins will learn their Carabao Cup first round opponents when the draw is held at 4:30pm this afternoon.
