Bristol City have announced the signing of Neto Borges on loan from Middlesbrough as their fifth addition of the summer

Neto Borges admits that it "feels amazing" to join Bristol City, after the full-back joined the Reds' ranks on loan for the season to become the fifth addition of the summer at Ashton Gate.

City confirmed on Sunday evening that the Brazilian left-back would be joining Gerhard Struber's side on loan for the season from the Reds' Championship rivals Middlesbrough. The 28-year-old has made three league appearances for Rob Edwards' side off of the bench so far this term.

Borges made the move to the Riverside from French side Clermont last summer, penning a three-year deal with Boro. In his only full season in the North East, the full-back made 35 appearances in the Championship, scoring once and laying on three assists.

Having seen his league minutes limited in the first weeks of the new campaign, Borges is relishing the chance to make an impact in south Bristol.

Speaking to the Robins' media team following the confirmation of his move, the 28-year-old said: "It feels amazing to be here. I've heard a lot about Bristol City and I'm excited.

"I played here last season, the stadium and the atmosphere felt amazing, so I'm looking forward to joining."

Adding further depth on the left side of defence was always likely to be a priority for City this summer. Although Cam Pring has proven to be an incredibly effective performer at Championship level over the course of his time in BS3, he has missed the entirety of the season so far with an injury sustained during the Reds' pre-season training camp in Portugal.

In the academy graduate's absence, Yu Hirakawa and Ross McCrorie have stood in under the management of Struber. Hirakawa impressed in the Reds' opening-day win over Sheffield United and looked bright when introduced in the second half against Hull City last time out, while McCrorie has built on the good form he demonstrated at the back end of last term this time around.

Haydon Roberts also remains an option on that flank, but his only competitive minutes under Struber have come off of the bench in the Carabao Cup. The former Derby County man has also been the subject of transfer interest this summer, with Stockport County previously understood to have held an interest in his services.

On City's latest addition, the Reds' technical director Brian Tinnion said: "We're really pleased to have Neto with us for the season.

"He's a talented player who can play in multiple positions on the left-hand side, adding depth and quality to the squad."

Borges will have to wait until after the September international break to make his debut for City. The Brazilian's first opportunity to take to the field in red and white will come against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, September 13, at Hillsborough.
