Bristol City next manager live updates as fans share their picks

Hello and welcome to today's live blog as Bristol City continue to look to appoint their third head coach in just over 18 months after Liam Manning completed his move to Norwich City.

The Robins confirmed on Thursday evening that Manning would be leaving his post at Ashton Gate with immediate effect to take up his new role at Carrow Road, having been linked with the Canaries' vacancy following City's play-off campaign.

Fans are already starting to share their preferred picks for who they would like to see take the job as Manning's successor, with one or two names popping up over and over.

City chairman Jon Lansdown has confirmed that the Reds are "assessing all options" as they look to replace Manning in the BS3 dugout while both Chris Hogg and James Krause remain at Ashton Gate at this stage with Norwich yet to meet either coach's release clause.

Five candidates Bristol City could consider

Right, we are by no means saying these five will be on the Robins' radar but having seen your suggestions over the last few days, we have picked out a couple of managers and head coaches who could replace Liam Manning at Ashton Gate.

13:37 - Who is in the market for managers?

By Daniel Carter

With Michael Carrick's exit now confirmed, there are plenty of Championship clubs now in the market for a new head coach.

Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Hull City don't currently have a head coach (although the Tigers are expected to appoint Sergej Jakirovic). Ruud van Nistelrooy's future at Leicester City remains unclear, as does Danny Rohl's at Sheffield Wednesday. On top of that, Marti Cifuentes is on gardening leave at QPR and has been for the last few weeks.

Plenty of jobs for candidates to looking at.

13:22 - Another change in the Championship

By Daniel Carter

There's been another change in the Championship with Michael Carrick and Middlesbrough going their seperate ways after Boro missed out on a place in the top six this season.

The club has today parted company with head coach Michael Carrick.

Contract news elsewhere

Alex Neil feels like a name who may have been linked to the Bristol City job in the past but I think it is fair to assume he won't be heading to Ashton Gate this time around... not that many seemed to have him in the running anyway.

12:17 - Who was the last manager to leave Bristol City without being sacked?

By Daniel Carter

We've been looking through the record books to see who was the last manager to leave Bristol City for another club, rather than departing having either been sacked or resigned.

Joe Jordan seems to be the most obvious shout having joined Hearts from Ashton Gate but Tony Pulis also left BS3 to complete a swift move to Portsmouth.

Let us know if we've missed anyone obvious.

10:42 - Who do the fans want?

Well with Manning's exit confirmed, attention now turns to his successor. To get a feel for who the fans want in the BS3 dugout, Bristol Live caught up with 10 supporters to see their picks for the new head coach, their thoughts on Manning's exit and much more.

09:27 - Our thoughts on Manning's exit

By Daniel Carter

As mentioned above, it is by no means a surprise that Manning's has departed BS3 and that has meant most fans have had plenty of times to gather their thoughts on his spell in charge of the Robins.

While he had his faults, he pushed Bristol City to become contenders in the Championship and now, the Reds simply cannot afford to go backwards.
