Bristol City extended their unbeaten run at the start of the season to three matches in all competitions as they drew 0-0 with Charlton Athletic at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon.
Gerhard Struber’s Robins were unable to make the breakthrough against Nathan Jones’ Addicks in what was their first home league game of the campaign, with Anis Mehmeti coming the closest to a winner when he rattled the crossbar early in the second half.
City twice came close to taking the lead in the first half, first when Mehmeti dragged a right-footed effort wide of the post from the edge of the penalty area and then when Yu Hirakawa forced a reasonable save from Tomas Kaminski with a volleyed effort following a Scott Twine corner.
After the break, the Robins continued to ask questions of the Addicks backline, with only the woodwork denying Mehmeti’s left-footed shot moments before the hour mark. However, from that point on, it was the away side who had the better of the chances.
Both Robert Apter and Harvey Knibbs forced good saves from City goalkeeper Radek Vitek, but the Manchester United loanee’s most important intervention saw him deny Robins defender George Tanner from close range. The former Carlisle looked to have turned into his own net midway through the second half, only for Vitek to claw the ball back off the line and to safety.
With Saturday’s draw, the Robins now sit fourth in the Championship after two games.

A frustrating one for #BristolCity and Gerhard Struber, but picked up what could prove to be an important point with a couple of standout performances. pic.twitter.com/UTOb94tAUJ

The manager's reaction
We have heard from a frustrated Gerhard Struber. The Bristol City boss happy with his side's defensive effort but disappointed with the second half which became a "ping-pong fight."

Full-time: Bristol City 0-0 Charlton
The free-kick comes to nothing and the referee blows his whistle. The points are shared at Ashton Gate. City will feel they had the chances to come away with all three today, but equally, it took some good work from Vitek to keep the visitors out at the other end.
We'll have reaction as it comes here...

Free-kick to City
McCrorie is fouled on the right wing with just seconds to play...

McCrorie sees shot blocked
The Scotsman's effort is snuffed out on the break very, very late on.
90+6Daniel Carter
Leaburn fires wide
The ball bounces in the City area and Leaburn gets a shot away. While he connects well, it ends up well wide of the post.

Should do so much better!
Mehmeti does so well to break up the field before laying off to Mayulu who sets it back to him. Sykes is screaming in space on the right by Mehmeti instead looks to feed Mayulu who is well marked. The attack comes to nothing and Sykes is rightly incredibly frustrated.

Seven minutes added
We have a fair bit mroe to come here! Just as the board went up, Vitek produced another huge save to keep Charlton out. The Robins have found themselves slightly on the back foot again here.

Charlton changes
Josh Edwards can't continue and will make way for Gillesphey. Docherty's afternoon is also over as he is replaced by Anderson.

Vyner turns over!
There's the chance! The corner is lofted to the back post where it is nodded down in the direction of Vyner. He tries to hook it goalward with his heel and while he connects well, he can't quite hit the target.
85Daniel Carter
City corner
Vyner's cross is blocked behind for a corner.

Double City change
Emil Riis and Scott Twine are off. On are Sinclair Armstrong and Fally Mayulu.

Vitek claims
The corner is played short before being whipped unto the box. Under a little pressure, Vitek does well to come and collect and slow things down slightly.
Moments later, Twine tries his luck from range but fires well over the bar.
82Daniel Carter
Charlton corner
McCrorie wins a race to a loose ball but instead of guiding it out of play, he kicks into touch and concedes a corner.
Charlton make a double change before the corner with Carey and Campbell off for Olaofe and Knibbs.

Mehmeti looks for a foul
Section 82 are convinced City should have a free-kick down in their corner of the pitch as Mehmeti goes to ground under a challenge. The referee isn't interested however, much to the winger and the crowds' frustration.
77Daniel Carter
He's back to his feet
The stretcher had just begun to be wheeled over to the side of the pitch, but Atkinson is back to his feet and more than happy to continue. The Charlton fans are giving him some grief but he's applauded by the home crowd.
76Daniel Carter
Atkinson is down here
I'm not sure what happened, but the physios are being waved on. The big defender is face down in the turf and doesn't look very comfortable.
75Daniel Carter
Ashton Gate are not happy
Moments after Riis is seemingly hauled to the ground without a foul being given, Vyner concedes a free-kick for what looked like quite a soft challenge. The home crowd are not happy around me.
73Daniel Carter
Yellow card
Apter goes into the book for a foul on McCrorie deep in the City half. The Scotsman had done well to win a footrace and spin his marker before being tripped as he broke away.
72Daniel Carter
A third Bristol City change
George Tanner's afternoon is over as he is replaced by Rob Dickie. Zak Vyner moves over to the right of the defensive trio with Dickie taking up the middle spot.

We're back underway
The drinks break is over and we're back underway. Vitek starts the latest phase of the game by clearing a ball straight into touch before winning a free-kick inside his own box.
69Daniel Carter
Over the bar
It is the away side who win the header from the resulting corner but they can't test Vitek, with the header ending up well over the bar.
On that note, we'll have another drinks break.
68Daniel Carter
Charlton corner
Tanner tackles his man in front of the away end and concedes a corner.
66Daniel Carter
Charlton fire wide
Carey lines one up from some way out and doesn't catch it well at all. It ends up closer to the corner flag than the goal and City will take their time over the goal kick.
64Daniel Carter
Vyner hacks clear
City clear the first corner then another wave comes from Charlton. This time, Riis is the man to win possession before the ball is worked back to Vyner. Inside his own area, he smacks it up field to try and ease the pressure.
63Daniel Carter
What a save!
Vitek has just saved Tanner's blushes. The defender gets a touch on a Charlton cross but pushes it towards his own goal. Just as it looks to cross the line, the United loanee gets down well to clear the danger.
Charlton then win a corner via a deflection.
62Daniel Carter
Break in play here
Charlton's Campbell has gone down holding his face and we'll have a slight break in play... scrap that, he doesn't need treatment and he gets to his feet. We will play on.
60Daniel Carter
Change for Charlton
The away side have now made their first change of the afternoon. Miles Leaburn is on for Kelman.
58Daniel Carter
Double City change
After that chance, Struber has turned to his bench. Max Bird and Mark Sykes are on in place of Yu Hirakawa and Adam Randell. Ashton Gate are up for this one.
