A large area of land in North Somerset that was once owned by one of the world’s biggest aerospace companies is to be turned into a housing development.

Some 77 new houses will be built on the site, which is north of Bishops Road in Claverham, and was formerly owned by UTC Aerospace Systems.

The land was sold off following the closure of the company's factory and will now be redeveloped.

The plans for the brownfield site include the conversion of the grade II listed Court de Wyck and Chapel, landscaping and ecology corridors, restoration of the Court de Wyck gardens and the installation of a crossing point on Bishops Road.

The plan is being supported by the Claverham Neighbourhood Plan.

Development consultancy Pegasus Group secured planning and listed building consent on behalf of Newland Homes.

The development was eligible for Vacant Building Credit (VBC) which incentivises development on previously developed land by offsetting affordable housing requirement for the development against the floorspace of the existing building; this was secured through extended negotiation with the North Somerset Council.
