'Deliberate' fire ignited near Bristol Temple Meads station

A fire which broke out near Bristol Temple Meads train station this evening (May 31) is believed to have started deliberately. The incident unfolded on Cattle Market Road, which runs next to the station, at around 7pm.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service crews from Temple were called out to the incident. A spokesperson for the fire service said the fire involved a wooden structure, trees and undergrowth.

A spokesperson for the service said: "Firefighters used one high pressure hose reel, one 45mm jet and two thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate."

Avon and Somerset Police says: "Shortly after 7pm yesterday (Wednesday 31 May) officers supported the fire service at the scene of a fire off Cattle Market Road.

"The fire, in a wooded area on the bank of the river, is believed to have been started deliberately.

"Anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time is asked to phone 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5223127814."

A spokesperson for the fire service says: "Crews from Temple were called just after 7pm to reports of a fire on Cattle Market Road, Bristol.

"On arrival, firefighters found a fire involving a wooden structure, trees and undergrowth.

"Firefighters used one high pressure hose reel, one 45mm jet and two thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the blaze.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate."
