A film and TV production studio in Bristol has been named a finalist for a coveted international award.

The Bottle Yard Studios, which is owned by Bristol City Council, is in the running for Studio of the Year at the prestigious Global Production Awards 2025.

Launched in 2023, the Global Production Awards was set up to celebrate outstanding and sustainable work in the world of film/TV production, locations and studios.

The Studio of the Year award goes to "the studio that through its body of work can demonstrate delivering to the highest level for productions, innovating and at the same time delivering for the local community it works in.”

Judges will be looking for “evidence of a studio’s professionalism, attraction to customers, creativity, customer service, sustainability and community focus."

Reacting to the news, Laura Aviles, Head of Film at Bristol City Council, said: "It is incredibly rewarding to see The Bottle Yard Studios shortlisted for this prestigious award, particularly after it won the Sustainable Initiative Award in 2023 for its TBY2 solar rooftop, and went on to be a central part of Bristol’s success in winning the City of Film Award in 2024.

"Having The Bottle Yard in the running for Studio of the Year puts Bristol’s film and TV production industry firmly in the international spotlight for a third consecutive year, which is a huge boost for the city’s global profile. Well done to the whole Studio operations team.”

It was embroiled in an ownership row last year after the City Council voted in favour of selling the world-renowned studio. The search for a buyer was still ongoing as of December, with councillors told it was "too late" to consider any alternatives.

Other shortlisted studios in the Studio of the Year category are Cinespace Studios and Vancouver Film Studios in Canada, NFI Studios in Hungary, and Shinfield Studios in Reading.

A winner will be crowned at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19.
