But maybe you want something more akin to a proper cooked meal? The good news is that Bimingham can offer that too with lashings of Italian style.

Apparently, it’s Buonissimo that serves the best Italian food in Birmingham - according to the public at least.

Located off Albany Road, the restaurant is the best in the city for Italian cuisine according to ratings on TripAdvisor, the travel guide website.

And it's worth noting that, somewhat bizarrely, Mylahore also features in the list.

That's because although described mainly as an Indian restaurant, it actually has a very broad menu that includes Italian food as well as steaks and stir-fries.

Reviews on TripAdvisor are submitted by the public with each review scoring the reviewed restaurant on a scale of one to five. This makes Buonissimo very much the people’s choice when it comes to Italian cuisine.

It received an average of 4.5 stars out of 5 across an impressive 558 reviews.

As well as placing it top of the pile for Italian food this also makes it the 14th best restaurant in Birmingham for any type of cuisine.

One recent satisfied customer reviewed the restaurant in glowing terms: “Recently enjoyed a wonderful lunch with a friend, lovely setting, perfect for catching up in relaxed and comfortable surroundings. Excellent value - the two course lunch was more like dinner proportions! Absolutely loved the salmon - thoroughly recommend!”

When the Mail looked at Birmingham’s best Italian eateries this time last year Buonissimo was also top of the list then.

The second most popular Italian in Birmingham is La Galleria Birmingham on Ethel Street while Annexe on Corporation Street was in third place.
