A popular snack adored by millions has undergone a major change to its packaging in a major move.

Babybel's memorable red cellophane wrapping will be transformed into a more eco-friendly recyclable packaging option, in a major change from the traditional packaging we all know.

The Bel group has the goal that by next year, 100 per cent of Babybel products will use the new wrapping.

Tesco will be the first supermarket to receive this new packaging, after partnering with the retailer to launch the wrappers. Those who want to pick up a Babybel with the wrapping can do so from the middle of this year.

According to the Sun, the red wax on the Babybel could also face a change too soon, so it's worth watching out for this in the future.

Béatrice de Noray, executive vice president in charge of growth at the Bel Group, said: “Its packaging enters a new chapter, one that strengthens what makes Babybel iconic: a practical, convivial, and instantly recognisable portion.

“By advancing its packaging, we are taking a structural step in our journey, embodying the combination of responsibility and performance that defines Bel’s DNA.”

The new Babybel packaging comes after a number of brands have swapped their packaging to be more eco-friendly over the years.

Heroes, which is owned by Cadbury, made a trial change to 300,000 of its sweet tubs in the run up to Christmas which saw the boxes transformed from plastic to paper.

The recyclable boxes included a OPRL labelling to provide information on how to dispose of the packaging. There was also a QR code on the tubs customers were asked to scan to share their feedback on the change.
