Chris Davies has wished Keshi Anderson well after the winger’s sudden Birmingham City exit and insisted their squad will be well stocked by the end of the transfer window.

Blues confirmed Anderson’s contract had been cancelled by mutual consent on Wednesday and fellow League One title winner Lyndon Dykes has since signed for Charlton Athletic.

Anderson was a mainstay last season, providing nine goals and eight assists in all competitions, to run Christoph Klarer close for the Player of the Year award.

But he hasn’t been able to translate that form to the Championship and Blues have agreed to offload him six months before his contract was due to expire.

“We wish Keshi well for the future,” said Davies. “He was a good player for us in League One. This season he obviously hasn’t played as much, from my side I absolutely wish him all the best for the future.”

Asked about the strange timing of the decision, given Blues’ lack of wide options due to Demarai Gray’s calf injury, Davies added: “From our point of view, we are trying to mould the squad to what’s best for the rest of this season and beyond.

“I think there’s players that want to play and have that opportunity to play more. We are trying to look at everything and see what we need.

“We’re not far away with players that are hopefully coming in so I don’t think there’ll be a big change.

“What we won’t be by the end of January is short of numbers. We will have covered those positions, it’s just in the interim period.”

Blues are still looking to sign a winger after their deal for Abdoulie Manneh fell through earlier this week.
