Producers were left with a dilemma in the crucial stages ahead of filming - to either replace Tom or leave mentor Nick with one less contestant.

At the time a source close to the show told us that it 'could be Mason or anyone from the 6 Chair Challenge.'

Mirror Online can confirm that it is indeed Mason who has been picked.

Should Mason Noise be allowed back on the ITV show following his tantrum?

YES - He is talented

NO - I don't think he should

Earlier today Mason's mentor Nick Grimshaw explained the shock decision on his BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

He said: "So we decided, and I spoke to the boy last night, we're bringing one back... It had to be Mason. I'm bringing back Mason Noise. I just thought he was exciting."

Producers were reportedly desperate to get the controversial artist back on the show to boost dwindling ratings.

Addressing Mason's behaviour, Nick added: "If he kicked off and wasn't talented, he'd be out the door. But he can really, really sing, and he's a performer and an entertainer, and for me, as a judge, he is someone who knows who they are."

Noise said: "I appreciate Nick inviting me back on the show. And even more so, I appreciate the fact he understands what I am trying to achieve... challenge accepted!"

Mason - who previously hit the news for slamming judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini - dramatically dropped his microphone and turned down the opportunity to go to Judges' Houses with Nick Grimshaw.

Nick revealed that the singer would have had a chair, had he not have stormed off.

Rebel Mason has been picked over Nathanael Landskroner, Ollie Marland, Davide Papasidero, Tom Davies, Jordan Luke Gage, Danny Sharples, Brodie Kelly and Jamie Eldridge.

Che Chesterman claims he'll WIN X Factor and reveals Mason Noise 'isn't so bad'

Che said that Mason is simply misunderstood.

He told Good Morning Britain viewers: "I think the fact that he didn't get screen time annoyed him, the horrible thing is that he is really a nice guy. It got to him a bit. He would have got a chair because his performance was brilliant - it was one of those moments where you look away. It was a bit silly."

Mason will join Nick's final contestants who currently stand as Ben Clark, Che Chesterman, Josh Daniel, Simon Lynch and Seann Miley Moore.
